The Spanish F3 Championship

For the past three decades no other championship has produced as many Formula 1 Grand Prix winners and World Champions as British Formula 3.  Arguably the most important career step in a young racing driver’s life, win in Formula 3 and you're marked as a star of the future. Ayrton Senna, the man who redefined Formula 1 in the late Eighties and early Nineties, made his name in British Formula 3. Senna won twelve F3 races in 1983 before moving straight to Formula 1 and in 1988, 1990 and 1991 was crowned the World Champion.

The Spanish Formula 3 championship is the pinnacle of single-seater racing in the Spain, with the series visiting some of Europes most exciting and challenging circuits such as Jerez, Spa, Mahn Cours and Valencia where the championship will be supporting the FIA F1 championship.

In today’s Formula 1 World Championship, one third of the drivers graduated from F3 including Rubens Barrichello, Juan Pablo Montoya, David Coulthard, Jenson Button, Takuma Sato and Mark Webber.

Spanish Formula 3 is therefore the ultimate stepping stone in motor racing with the world’s press, industry and Formula one paddock paying close attention.

The Formula 3 Car

There is no better preparation for Formula 1 than the demand of extracting the maximum performance out a Formula 3 car.  Visually similar to a Formula 1 car, all be it scaled-down, a Formula 3 is a precision-built single-seater car powered by a two-litre race engine, with aerodynamic wings at the front and rear. All Spanish F3 cars are fitted with Dunlop tyres which are available in either wets or slicks.

Teams can use any chassis that conforms to FIA regulations, the most common chassis being the Italian Dallara, constructed in carbon fibre by computer aided designed and redefined by many hours in a wind tunnel.  With all chassis’s fully adjustable the championship ensures that success is not earned by only the quickest driver on the track, but a from a driver that can work closely with their team to engineer the best performance.  A F3 is capable of over 170mph demanding a clean, precise, committed driving style. A serious race car with a serious objective.
